Looking Back on a Very Special Holiday Season
The holidays are over, and it’s a brand new year, but at Smiles by Holsinger & Higgins, the spirit of giving still lingers. In the final months of 2020, we continued with our tradition of community involvement with a Holiday Cookie Drive-Thru and a food drive, and our patients really impressed us with their kindness and generosity.
Last month, close to 130 people came from near and far to pick up cookies at our office for our Holiday Cookie Drive-Thru. In fact, one person even drove an hour and a half to get their cookies. We had a parade of cars full of families and even pets, and it was amazing! The event was an enormous success. But what has really kept us smiling since then is the sense of community we all felt, despite what’s going on all around us. It was truly a joy to see everyone as they drove up and the smiles in their eyes when we handed them their colorful cookie packages.
In December, we also held a Holiday Food Drive at the office, collecting non-perishable items to benefit His Hope Ministries, a nearby homeless shelter. Again, we were so impressed with the generosity of our patients in donating to this cause at a time when the need is greater than ever before.
December is not the only time Drs. Holsinger and Higgins and the Smiles team think about giving back to the community. As a matter of fact, our office has an established tradition of participating in community events and organizations throughout the Denton area and Caroline County. In the fall, we held a Halloween Candy Exchange. Children from all over the area traded in their candy for some cash, and we shipped all that candy to US troops overseas. The office also works regularly with Habitat for Humanity, and the doctors enjoy donating their time and resources in other ways throughout the year.
Many of our patients also know that Dr. Higgins currently serves on the Maryland State Board of Dental Examiners and that Dr. Holsinger is the treasurer for not one, but two charitable organizations: Eastern Shore Dental Society, which serves the entire state of Maryland, and the Denton Church of the Brethren. Another organization near to Dr. Holsinger’s heart is the Eastern Shore Dental Mission of Mercy, a free adult dental clinic, where he is currently the Dental Lead. Both Dr. Higgins and Dr. Holsinger participate in Donated Dental Services, providing free dental care to differently abled patients.
So, as you can see, at Smiles by Holsinger & Higgins, we feel the spirit of giving year round, not just during the holidays. But, this past holiday season, we felt it in a very special way because of our wonderful patients and amazing community. We thank everyone for celebrating the holidays with us and look forward to a whole new year full of smiles, celebrations, caring, sharing, and giving.
