For Drs. Holsinger and Higgins, February is important for two reasons—Valentine’s Day, of course, and it also marks the practice’s anniversary. In fact, this February, Smiles by Holsinger & Higgins is celebrating 35 years of providing superior family dental care in Denton, MD.
The holidays are over, and it’s a brand new year, but at Smiles by Holsinger & Higgins, the spirit of giving still lingers. In the final months of 2020, we continued with our tradition of community involvement with a Holiday Cookie Drive-Thru and a food drive, and our patients really impressed us with their kindness and generosity.

With all that has been happening around us, it’s easy to understand why many would be more concerned with their overall health.
We know that a healthy smile is one small part of a healthy body, and we want you to live your healthiest life. That being said, we understand that we see many patients with previous medical conditions that can make them susceptible to episodes during their dental treatment.
At Smiles by Holsinger and Higgins, we believe that the focus on patients doesn’t end at our door. We love the opportunity to educate our patients and give back to our community. This is why we are so passionate about our work with the MSDA Foundation. The MSDAF is an organization whose mission is to improve the oral health of Marylanders through education and the support of programs that improve access to dental care.

The holiday season is quickly approaching and while we are all busy with the hustle and bustle of preparing for holiday meals and shopping for family, we can’t help but notice that things are just a bit different this year. This year has been hard on everyone and especially hard for people who were already food or housing insecure before the pandemic struck. Many people have lost jobs and homes and now find themselves with very limited resources. Luckily, there has also been an overwhelming response from citizens around the country who have generously donated to homeless shelters, food pantries, and community kitchens to help those who may be in difficulty.
Screening Patients
When our patients update their medical histories, we have been actively screening them to learn about any history of travel or signs of infection like cough, fever or shortness of breath.
Taking Temperatures
Before performing any dental procedures, we have been taking everyone’s temperature. This is our new routine protocol during assessment of all patients.
Washing Hands
All patients and team members are required to perform proper hand hygiene by washing their hands thoroughly.
Wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
At our office, we have a strict policy to only practice dentistry when the right protective equipment is in place. We always wear surgical masks and eye protection. Masks are changed between patients. Rest assured, we are fully stocked in dental supplies.
Cleaning and Disinfecting
Throughout the day, we are rigorously cleaning all public areas in our office, including the reception area, bathroom, and operatories. This intensive cleaning includes everything from door handles to chairs.
Proper Social Distancing
You can rest assured that we are practicing proper social distancing in our office. We are actively working to make sure that patients are 6 feet or more away from others. We are encouraging patients to come in at their exact appointment time so that no one is waiting in our office.
