Kiss Dental Anxiety Goodbye!
Do you have a fear of the dentist’s office? Nearly 75% of the population shares your fear. Fortunately, there is a solution that will allow you to keep your appointment — while remaining relaxed and worry-free.
Overcome Dental Fear With Relaxation Dentistry
Relaxation dentistry strives to make the dental experience as comfortable and stress-free as possible. One tool we use to do this is mild or moderate sedation. We don’t want to put you to sleep like anesthesia, but rather calm, relax, and soothe you. There are several options, depending on the extent of your fear and the dental procedure to be done.
For mild sedation, we use nitrous oxide. This safe gas is mixed with oxygen and is inhaled through a mask. You remain awake, but relaxed. After the procedure is complete, we switch to oxygen only to aid in your recovery. Sometimes called “laughing gas,” nitrous oxide can cause temporary giddiness. Typically, the effects wear off quickly, which means that you can drive yourself to and from the appointment.
For stronger fears or more complex procedures, we use oral sedation, which requires no needles and is the most common technique used in the U.S. to ease dental fears. You’ll be given a pill to take prior to your appointment that will make you less aware of pain, sounds, and smells. When you arrive for your appointment, you’ll be totally relaxed and at ease. With this form of sedation, you will need to be driven to and from your appointment.
With sedation dentistry, you may find yourself in a relaxed state where time passes quickly. You may feel like your dental procedure lasted only a few minutes, when it might have taken hours. For this reason, sedation could be a benefit for you if you have problems sitting for any length of time or are having a complex procedure that could take a long time or would otherwise require multiple visits.
While you may not always look forward to visiting us, you need not fear it any longer. With the sedation dentistry options we have available, you can forget about your worries and focus on the results our caring team will provide. Call us today if you have any questions, or set up an appointment to find out if sedation dentistry is right for you!
