Benefit Of Adult Orthodontic Care
Would you love to straighten your teeth but feel that you are too old to start treatment? We are here to tell you that there is no age that we think is too old to improve your smile and your self-confidence. Orthodontic treatment is not the same as you may remember from your youth. The days of bulky traditional metal braces being the only option are long gone. At Smiles by Holsinger and Higgins, we are proud to offer a variety of orthodontic options to our adult patients.
Why Start Treatment?
Aside from improving aesthetics, there is one major reason we recommend patients start orthodontic care as adults: it improves their oral health. If you have teeth that are overcrowded and overlapping, there is a good chance that you are continuously dealing with food trapped between your teeth. Over time, this will lead to repeated tooth decay. Patients who have crowded and overlapping teeth are also more prone to gum disease because they cannot properly clean between the teeth and along the gumline. This will eventually lead to the development of plaque. Adult orthodontic care is also beneficial to patients who may have bite and jaw issues that have led to a diagnosis of temporomandibular joint disorder, also known as TMD.
Orthodontic Options
We are proud to offer our patients various forms of orthodontic care. Following an examination and conversation with you about what outcome you would like to see with treatment and your oral health, we will make our recommendation for treatment. We may recommend:
Damon Braces
This option is similar to traditional metal braces in that there are metal brackets; however, the treatment is different. The brackets are smaller, and the treatment time is typically shorter. There are also fewer adjustments needed, making this option more comfortable.
Clear Aligners
We offer two forms of clear aligners, Invisalign® and ClearCorrect, both of which use clear aligner trays that slowly transition the teeth into the desired placement.
