35 Years of Smiles!
For Drs. Holsinger and Higgins, February is important for two reasons—Valentine’s Day, of course, and it also marks the practice’s anniversary. In fact, this February, Smiles by Holsinger & Higgins is celebrating 35 years of providing superior family dental care in Denton, MD.
A Love Story
Drs. Higgins & Holsinger met as in dental school and were married the day after they graduated. They decided to settle in Dr. Holsinger’s hometown of Denton, MD when they found out they were going to have their first child. So, in February 1986, they opened a family dentistry practice just about a mile from their current location. Back then, they only had one dental chair in the office that they shared, taking turns booking patients. Obviously, many things have changed since then and the office has expanded, but Drs. Holsinger and Higgins remain just as committed to providing superior family dental care as when they were in 1986.
Time Flies When You Love Your Job
While Smiles by Holsinger & Higgins has been a fixture in the Denton community for over three decades now, according to Dr. Higgins, it doesn’t seem that long at all: “It’s hard to believe we’ve been practicing long enough not only to see our own daughters grow up, but also to watch our patients’ children and grandchildren grow up and to have the privilege to serve the dental needs of the next generation.”
For the Love of the Patients
Throughout the years, both doctors have kept it their mission to stay up to date on the latest dental techniques, seeking out cutting-edge technology in order to provide the best possible experience for their patients. As Dr. Holsinger explains, “We’ve never lost our passion for finding better ways to help our patients preserve, restore and maintain good oral health. Our office is designed with patient comfort in mind, and we make sure that our dental and professional staff are knowledgeable, compassionate and well-trained.”
For the Love of the Community
Drs. Holsinger and Higgins have also kept their passion for giving back to the community, serving in their capacity as dental professionals as well as community advocates. They both continue to serve on professional boards and in civic organizations, freely giving their time to charitable and educational causes and donating dental care to underserved communities.

Dr. Holsinger and Dr. Higgins are truly dedicated dental practitioners. They’re enduring commitment to excellence in dentistry is their most distinguishing quality, which was never more apparent than when the office had to close in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. According to Dr. Higgins, “Not being able to practice dentistry, even for a relatively short time, reminded us just how much it’s at the heart of who we are.

With 35 years of excellence in dentistry and community service, it’s no wonder Smiles by Holsinger & Higgins continues to be the premier family dental practice in the Denton, MD area. Thankfully, Dr. Holsinger and Dr. Higgins are still able to practice with the same enthusiasm, passion, and love for their work as before and plan to do so for a long time to come.
