How We Give Back to Our Community

At Smiles by Holsinger and Higgins, we believe that the focus on patients doesn’t end at our door. We love the opportunity to educate our patients and give back to our community. This is why we are so passionate about our work with the MSDA Foundation. The MSDAF is an organization whose mission is to improve the oral health of Marylanders through education and the support of programs that improve access to dental care. 

There are a record number of individuals who are lacking the dental care that they truly need. Research continues to show a link between good oral health and a direct relation to overall health. By implementing preventive dental measures today, a patient can improve their overall health over the span of their lifetime. The MSDAF focuses its fundraising to promote quality dental healthcare for all and access to anyone who has a need.

For our part, our office is proud to dedicate time every year to support and help The Mission of Mercy, which is the first outreach program supported by the MSDAF. The Mission of Mercy, or MOM, provides free dental care to those in need. Free clinics are set up, and thousands of patients all over Maryland receive preventive and emergency dental care. Many of the patients seen are uninsured and have not received dental care in years. These clinics are much needed in the community to provide fundamental support for oral health as well as further education to those who are not aware such need exists.

Over the past year the MSDAF has provided care in 7 clinics, serving over 3,300 patients. It has provided dental hygiene kits to those in need, performed over 14,400 procedures, for a total treatment value of almost $3,000,000. All of this was provided at no cost to any of the patients. The MSDAF has been working tirelessly to prepare and establish treatment for  those in need while maintaining the safety measures required to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
